Musician with Cerebral Palsy

Dear Rebecca,

I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this email to your members and their families, as we are hoping to find a family of musicians for our music-loving exchange student with cerebral palsy, Vladlen!

We would love to place him with a musically-inclined host family in the Washington, DC or Southern Maryland area, and are always available by phone or email for any questions you or your members might have:

My name is Caroline Kaine, and I work for World Learning, an international development non-profit in Washington, D.C. on the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program. The FLEX program is a U.S. Department of State-sponsored exchange program that brings students from ten post-Soviet republics to the United States for an academic year to live with volunteer host families and study at U.S. high schools. I wanted to ask you to consider hosting Vladlen, a music-loving Russian exchange student with cerebral palsy, for anywhere from two months to the full academic year. We are working especially hard to place him with a fun, disabilities-friendly family in the D.C./Southern Maryland area, where we have schools open to his enrollment. Vladlen is 17 years-old, very independent and mobile, and enjoys swimming, music, and fashion. He plays the guitar, bass guitar, and piano, and also loves to sing! He hopes to become a famous musician or music teacher one day, and looks forward to playing the guitar and singing songs for his friends and host family in the US. He arrives to his host city on August 20th, and before that will attend a Mobility International (MIUSA) workshop to better prepare him for the US high school experience.

In terms of accommodation, MIUSA has recommended a home with minimal steps/stairs, or a single-level home, as Vladlen walks with a cane. I have attached his host family letter and our student profiles to this email, and encourage you to share this with your membership, and any families you think would be great hosts!

Best,

Caroline Kaine
